One question that I get asked a lot is: My baby is 1-month-old, is that too old for newborn photos?
You’ve heard me say it: Book Now!
Book now, while you’re still pregnant so you ensure a spot on my calendar, and then all you have to do is email me once baby is born to firm up the actual session date during that perfect 7-14 day old newborn window.
But what if you CAN’T get baby in during her first two weeks after birth?
If, for some reason, you weren’t able to schedule a newborn session when your baby was one to two weeks old, don’t worry. 1 month old baby photos are just as beautiful, sweet, and treasured keepsakes.
Maybe your baby needed to spend some time in the NICU. Perhaps you’ve been in and out of the hospital treating jaundice.
One time I had a long time client who had moved well out of my area. They searched for a photographer to do their next baby’s newborn photos.
Their daughter was born, and they still hadn’t found a photographer. After a few more weeks of searching, they decided no one else compared to me (obviously. I kid, I kid!).
When she was nine weeks old, they decided to bite the bullet and drive the 4 hours to my studio. With a little extra time and patience, we got her to sleep, and she has beautiful newborn photos!
What if per se, a global pandemic hits your country right when your baby is born, all businesses are shut down, including your photographer, and everyone’s hands are tied, sheltering in place…waiting out the storm.
So the answer is: No. It’s not too late. Its never too late to photograph your baby.
You will never regret having photos of your baby from when she 1 month old, 2 months old, or 3 months old!
Yes, babies who are 1-2 months old are more alert and have longer awake times, but a few perks to this age? There is a high chance we can catch a smile! Babies start smiling at about six weeks, and it is just the absolute BEST.
Also, let’s talk about the extra chub we get with a baby who has had some weeks to put on the pounds. Those baby rolls and full cheeks are so good.
Melvin makes my case in point. Just look at these smiles and the extra chub he’s got. He was my first baby back in the studio after eight weeks of shutdown.
