Friday morning and the girls are busy! “There’s a Monster at the End of This Book” is Amity’s favorite app/game/book on the iPad. She calls it the “Grover Book.” With the recent discovery and implementation of “guided access” she can now do it all by herself without getting rerouted and stuck in another app. Pretty fun! This book may be to blame for her recent obsession with looking for Monsters around the house and being, as she says, “kinda scared” of them. She likes to take a flashlight and look under things and point to the ceiling hunting for them.

Why is Amity in her pajama’s already at 3:59 in the afternoon you ask? Oh. That is because she just Blew Chucks ALL OVER her self and the carseat!! We didn’t know it yet but this was the start to a terrible, terrible week of the stomach flu in our house. We were on our way down to Greg’s sister’s house in Salem for a family dinner to celebrate his 30th birthday. Amity had woken up from a great nap in a good mood and we got in the car to drive down. When on the freeway she was covering up with her blankie (something she does when she’s about to go to sleep). Then all of a sudden we heard it. She threw up. I looked back and she threw up again. She was in shock, didn’t know what was going on! I was trying to hold it together and not break down in tears from the sight of her poor self covered in vomit and trying to comfort her while Greg was trying to pull off the freeway (of course we were in a little bit of traffic). We pulled into the nearest gas station and Greg used a coin operated water and air pump to clean off her carseat. We bought some trash bags to save the rest of the carnage for the wash. Thankfully I had packed jammies for the ride home. That is why Amity is in the car at 3:59pm wearing her pajamas. The rest of the night she was her happy self, playing with her cousins and didn’t miss a beat. We thought…hmmm, must have been something she ate!…

…Not so lucky. Sunday morning Amity woke up at 6:00am in a total funk. She did not feel good at all. She actually slept in our bed with us from 6-7am, which she never does. Usually she gets in bed with us and is simply too hyper to settle down to sleep. We spent the day hydrating and taking it easy. By the afternoon she was feeling better.

I received this quilt in the mail from my dear friend, Rendy, on Friday and could not love it more. I am so emotional about this quilt! First of all it is perfectly sweet and I just love the colors. It goes so well with their room. Secondly, I had not made anything for Verity yet (for my own emotional reasons) and receiving this beautiful gift was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. I love it so much I plan to make a companion blanket for Amity : ) Even better? I got this on Friday and Rendy went into labor and delivered her baby boy 4 weeks early on Tuesday! Talk about super mom!

At midnight on Monday I woke up and spent the rest of the night with the stomach flu. It was a nightmare! I will spare the details, but lets just say there was nothing left to give come morning. I was feverish and with chills in the early morning hours and still so nauseous. I barely left bed that whole next day. I think the only reason I got out of bed that day was to take a shower later in the afternoon and to take this photo of Verity. Because how could I not? She looked so sweet and it was her 3 week birthday.

Sending out an SOS! By Wednesday morning I still was not feeling good and could barely manage to take care of the girls let alone the laundry, dishes, etc. In addition Amity had thrown up twice during the night so I wasn’t sure if she was going to need more care that day or if she was going to start feeling better again. Greg really needed to get back to work so we did something we have never done and asked Greg’s mom to make a 3 hour drive to come down and stay with us to help us. We are so glad we did because we continued to be one man down after Wednesday. The middle of Wednesday night and Greg got his turn in the bathroom! vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and body aches. I am telling you this thing was brutal!!

Thursday I was starting to regain my strength and Amity was better. Greg spent much of the day in bed and I could do a few things here and there now but still weak. Amity did so great. All week we were pretty much holed up inside trying to recoup. After she watched this show we went out for the first walk in days. It was a gorgeous fall afternoon out and smelled so good! We walked up to check on our park…still not done. The swings were hung, the bark leveled, everything looked ready to go but the construction fence was still up around it. So we settled for collecting treasures and putting them in her pockets. Two leaves and two stones.

Friday came and I was feeling about 80% better. Still homebound so I started to let Amity open a few gifts early. Desperate times call for desperate measures! This play food set came from her Tante Gail and Uncle Josh. She loved it! Loved cutting up the food and putting it back together. Yay for entertaining new toys when your parents are sick! The tomoato is probably her favorite to cut (not sure why??) and she keeps calling it a “potato.” I can’t tell you how many times I tried to drill into her thick little scull that it was a Tomato (and yes, she is perfectly capable of pronouncing it correctly) but she was dead set on it being a Potato.

Some of Greg’s symptoms were still lingering but we managed to have a little family fun on Sunday evening and Amity carved her first pumpkin. Well, okay so we did all the work but she was an ever helpful bystander. She loved watching me pull out the “ooey, gooey, mess” but would not put her hand in that pumpkin for anything. Lol! Halloween is almost here and we have been practicing, “Trick-or-Treat, Please?” I’m excited to take her trick or treating for the first time. I think she is going to get a real kick out of that! Oh, and I’m also really looking forward to the parental privilege of eating most of her candy! Muhahaha!
