We are so happy to announce that we welcomed our second daughter into this world on October 2nd at 2:34am.
Verity Jane | 7lbs 3oz and 19.5 inches
She is a beauty and we are so in love with her. She was born to us through adoption as was her sister, Amity. Aside from our salvation in Christ, these precious girls are truly the greatest gifts we will ever receive.
So…it turns out we now have TWO October birthday girls in this house. I’ll be continuing my photo-a-day project chronicling this crazy month as best I can : ) Today already marks Verity’s 1 week birthday. It has been a whirlwind. Completely exhausting emotionally and physically!
October 2, 2012 – Greg holding Verity for the first time at the hospital. She came into this world quite peacefully and has continued to be such an easy baby. She barely cried as they rubbed her down, or when they gave her the vitamin K shot, and she loved her first bath right after being born. She is just pretty chill!October 3, 2012 – All dressed and ready to leave the hospital!October 4, 2012 – Because Verity was born in Washington state we could not leave for Oregon for a few days while we waited for our Interstate Compact to be approved. Thankfully our parents live in WA so we stayed a few nights with them. This photo is of Amity with Grandma Anderson and cousin Leila. This summer we went to Yellowstone and this is a children’s book that Grandma picked up while we were there and all the kids have loved remembering the animals from the trip through this book!October 5, 2012 – First photo I was able to grab of the two of them. Amity was bribed with a treat. She has been a little less doting than I thought she was going to be around “Baby Sister” but she is getting used to Verity and starting to love on her at her own pace.October 6, 2012 – We arrived home to Portland! After some unpacking we all sat down to dinner. To truly appreciate this photo I suppose you’d have to see the one that preceeded it. Amity was having a crying fit over something (who knows what now!) and so she wanted me to hold her too. Then she turned the charm on and flashed Greg this smile. She is our little drama queen.October 7, 2012 – Our first full day back at home in Portland. It was very relaxing! Most of the time Verity is fast asleep. Here she was having one of her rare alert and awake times. I had been in the shower and Greg set the girls up on our bed like this. Amity was busy pointing out animals in her book and Verity was very content to look out the window and listen to her chatter.October 8, 2012 – Here she is doing what she does best! Sleeping like an angel. The past several weeks Greg has been plowing through the Count of Monte Christo. He is loving this book. And let me tell you this guy is not one to read books but he has been extremely dedicated to finishing this one.October 9, 2012 – Today was Greg’s first day back to work. We survived! Amity has some kind of small stomach bug so she wasn’t completely herself today. She did go to “The Girls'” house today. We are starting that back up again and I think it will be good to restore more of her “old” routine. While she was there I took a crack at some newborn photos of Verity. I’ve now decided that it is just downright stressful to take newborn photos of your own baby. It is too hard to be mom and photographer! Thankfully I have my friend Amy coming on Thursday to help me with more. I think part of it is that I have such high expectations. As a photographer I want the photos of my kids to be the BEST ones I have ever taken. Anyhow, they are lovely and I’m so glad I’ve taken what I have so far : ) The photo for today is from bath time. Amity now prefers to take her bath in the baby bathtub. She was happy to take a break from playing to give her sis and kiss “right on the nose.”
