The holidays are some of the best times of the year. You get to meet up with family and friends, maybe travel out of town, and go to parties and seasonal events. Or at least, you used to be able to do that. Thanks to social distancing, travel is on hold, parties are canceled, and many of us can’t visit friends or family right now. The holidays this year are going to look different from any other, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Here are a few ways to safely celebrate the holidays this year.
One way to celebrate the holidays this year is to visit your loved ones virtually. Hop on FaceTime or Zoom instead of a normal phone call so you can see people’s faces. You can even make it a fun event. Schedule a time and day to video chat with each other and plan some actives to do together. Watch movies, make cookies, or play games, all while social distancing. It’s a huge relief to actually see your friends and family, and it’s even better when you do things together. Watching Netflix with my friends via video chat has been a lifesaver this past year, and even more so during the holidays. Take the time to visit virtually with your loved ones, you’ll be glad you did.
Another way to celebrate the holiday season this year is by sending out Christmas cards or holiday cards. It’s a great way to keep everyone up to date on your family’s lives and let everyone on your list know you are thinking of them. I like to order my holiday cards from Basic Invite. All of their cards are completely customizable, from font to color scheme. Check out their selection of Christmas photo cards and custom holiday photo card. You won’t be disappointed. My family always compliments my holiday cards, and your loved ones are bound to love your cards too.
A final way to celebrate the holidays is to practice gratitude. This has been a rough year for us all, and one way to mitigate the stress is by reminding yourself what you are grateful for. Starting a gratitude journal is one way to do that. If journaling is not your thing, you can spend a minute or two each day going over in your mind what you appreciate in your life. How ever you practice gratitude, you are sure to feel better about your life once you make it a habit.
The pandemic has changed everything, and that includes the holidays. By practicing gratitude, sending out Christmas photo cards, and connecting with loved ones virtually, you will be able to safely enjoy the magic of the season. Safe holidays, everyone!
