My name is Katie, and I’m so glad you’ve found my little corner of the internet while searching for a Portland newborn photographer.
For over 16 years, I’ve specialized in photographing babies and families, capturing more than 500 newborns in that time. My studio is located just 47 miles south of downtown Portland in Salem, Oregon, where I create calm, natural, baby-led portraits that focus on connection and simplicity.
Most days, you’ll find me photographing sweet new arrivals, editing, and keeping my four kiddos happy. I’m a mama through adoption and remarriage. Together we’ve got a 9th grader, two 7th graders, and a 5th grader, so I know firsthand how quickly these early days and years fly by.

• I'll make sure I still have availability around that time.
• You look over my email with all the info, decide that "Yep! This is our newborn photographer!" booking emails will be on their way. Then...we wait!
• Baby is born and we firm up a session date. All sessions take place M-F.
• Photo session day arrives, and you will walk into the studio for a relaxed and stress-free newborn session.
• You leave happy and oh so relieved that you had these photos taken!
• About 7-10 business days later I’ll email you a gallery to your proofed portraits, and the ordering process begins!

My work may not be the least expensive in the area, but it's certainly one of the best values. My unique process ensures you'll get exactly what you want, and end up with beautiful images to print and enjoy for years to come.

You should book your newborn session during your 2nd or 3rd trimester?
Most of the newborns I photograph are between 7 and 14 days old.
Booking your newborn session before baby arrives will ensure that:
1. I'm available around your due date.
2. You don't look up, suddenly your baby is 3 months old, and you realize you forgot to have newborn photos taken!
3. There is time to take your maternity photos.

Everything you might want to know before booking
Once you have booked your session, I will be emailing you a link to an online guide that details what you can do to prepare for our time together. It has info like my studio address, what to wear, what to bring, when baby should be kept awake, and more. After reading this guide, you will feel confident and ready!
Absolutely! You’re welcome to split your order into two or three payments — just let me know what works best for you, and I’ll set it up. Your final digital files will be delivered once payment is complete.
I know it can feel overwhelming right now, but trust me — you’ll never regret capturing these moments. The newborn phase passes in the blink of an eye, and it truly is a once-in-a-lifetime season. So many parents have told me, when their second baby arrives, how much they wish they’d done newborn photos with their first.
Fear not! Don’t let the distance keep you from booking your newborn session with me. Many of my clients come from the Portland, Tigard, Lake Oswego, and even Beaverton areas. Salem is about 45 min south.
My sessions generally start at 10:00 am, and the reason for this is two-fold. First, I have found that babies are less fussy in the morning. Second, traveling between 9 and 10 am is traffic-free.
Parents like you tell me time and time again that the drive was easy, stress and traffic free. Baby sleeps, you get a little peace and quiet and time to drink your coffee on the ride.
The other thing to remember is that a newborn session is an event. You will not drive down and then immediately turn around. You’ll likely be at my studio for 2-3 hours; then it will be time to grab lunch and enjoy historic downtown Salem before hitting the road again.
Mostly just yourselves and baby! I will touch on more of this in my guide that I email to you but I'll also suggest you bring things like an extra change of clothes, binky, and bottle.
As for all of the blankets, wraps, and bonnets - I have all of that here for your use at the studio. I follow all kinds of knitters and fabric providers on Etsy, Instagram, and Facebook to keep the studio well stocked with sweet and natural textures. If you see something that you like just let me know and I can for sure incorporate it into your session.
Absolutely. Newborn sessions include parents and siblings. Once you have arrived, set your things down, and get oriented to the studio, we will work on getting your family ready and dressed for photos. I like to photograph the family and siblings near the beginning so that for the rest of the session they are able to play.
At the studio, I have a train set, other toys, and lots of books. Many kiddos don’t even want to leave the studio once baby has finished up! There are also snacks and drinks for you here to keep little ones occupied.

Baby may need to nurse a few times back to sleep but other than that I try to give mom and dad a break by doing most of the soothing. When you are done with your photos…its your time to relax! Have some tea, surf on your phone, or read a magazine. Kiddos are always welcome at the studio.

About ten business days after your digital files are picked out, I will have your fully edited files ready and will upload them to an online gallery for easy viewing, sharing, and purchasing. I will email you a link to the gallery. This is where you will download your high-resolution digital files.
