We just got back from our 11 year anniversary vacation to Bend. This trip really was everything I had hoped it would be and more. I mean, it was hard. Let’s face it … we have a 4.5 and 2.5 year old and they do make things hard ; ) However, we had a lot of fun, too, in between the regular whining, bickering, pickiness, and occasional tantrum.
We stayed at Cottage Bend, a house rental that I found on Airbnb. It was described as fun and stylish. And it was just that. I would highly recommend staying here! The location was perfect. Walking distance to park, river, coffee, and more!
These were taken at Columbia Park which was just a block away from our rental house. There is a great ship themed playground, large grassy areas, access to the river, and a fun slide that goes from the playground area to the river trail.
Greg is a big archery buff and so when he saw these child sized bow and arrows…he could not resist. The girls loved playing with them and really got the hang of them – especially Amity.
Walking on the river trail at Columbia Park.
These photos are from Farewell Bend Park. Which also has a great playground in addition to this nice “beach” area. The weather could not have been more perfect for us. Sun, sun, and more sun!
Drake Park is nice for walking, but wasn’t our favorite spot to play. A lot of geese hang out there….
Oh the food in Bend!! So good. This was a quick lunch at home. We tried to do most breakfasts and lunches at home and then did dinner out. Our favorite that we tried was Spork. It used to be a food cart but then did so well they now have their own restaurant. It was hoppin’ both times we went it. The Thai Steak Salad was divine!! Other places that we went to and loved: Backporch Coffee Roasters, Sparrow Bakery, Food Carts at The Lot, and Mother’s Juice Cafe.
Our cottage had bikes for us to use, so we rented a bike trailer for the girls and were set. We really fell in love with this way of getting around, so much so that as soon as we got home we looked on craigslist and found one to purchase here at home. I think more biking is in our future this summer.
We really did what we do around at home…play, coffee, exersise, naps, even a little work, etc but in a new place! There was a Barre3 studio within walking distance so I signed up to try that and did 3 classes while there. It’s a combination of ballet, yoga, and Pilates. It was a bit torturous, but a Great workout and the staff was super friendly! I wish Salem had a studio downtown…
The days were so hot so the only time of day that using the jacuzzi felt bearable was in the morning, and Amity made sure to drag Greg or me out there every morning! This was probably one of her favorite activities while there.
Bend, you were good to us! We’ll be back!
