Hi, I’m Katie, the photographer behind Arcadian Photography. I’ve been working with children and families for over 17 years and have photographed a number of preschools and school-age children for picture day.
As a mom myself, I understand how meaningful these portraits become over time
My approach is patient and flexible, allowing each child’s personality to shine naturally.
I focus on clear communication, smooth logistics, and a stress-free experience for staff and families.
My goal is to create natural, joyful images while making picture day feel simple, organized, and fully supported for your school.

How Preschool Picture Day Works

The process is completely paperless; no paper forms to pass out and collect. Parents pre-register their child for picture day online using a link I provide you.

Families receive an email with a link to their child’s private online gallery. Each gallery is protected with a private access code.

Your school will not need to pass out any photos. Orders will be shipped directly to parents.

Studio Style Portraits
I bring a clean, minimalist studio setup directly to your school. Professional lighting and backdrops create consistent, beautiful portraits that keep the focus on each child rather than distractions in the background.
Because the setup is fully studio-based, there is no need to worry about weather changes or rescheduling.
The result is a timeless, cohesive portrait style that feels polished and true to your school community.
Every Portrait in Color and Black &White
Each child’s gallery includes both color and black-and-white versions of their portraits.
Color images capture the warmth and personality of the moment, while black-and-white portraits offer a timeless, classic look that many families love for printing and framing.
By providing both styles, parents can choose the images that best fit their home and their personal style.
Complimentary Class Composites
Instead of gathering a whole class of busy preschoolers for one group photo, I photograph each child individually and then digitally create the final class composite.
This approach ensures every child looks their best. No closed eyes, no awkward expressions.
If a student misses Picture Day, I can still include them in the final class image.
I can also customize the class composite to include your school’s name and logo, creating a keepsake that reflects your school community.
Preschool Picture Day FAQs
Most schools only need one Picture Day. I’ll work closely with you to create a schedule that fits your class sizes and daily routines. If your school has a larger number of students or part-time programs, we can add a second day to make sure everything runs smoothly.
I arrive before students to allow time for setup and aim to finish by lunchtime, when children are happiest and most comfortable. This schedule allows up to approximately 60 students to be photographed in one morning.
I encourage families to attend on Picture Day whenever possible. If a child is unable to attend, I’m happy to schedule a short make up day the following week so every child can be photographed and included in the class composite.

I personally photograph every Picture Day from start to finish. When possible, it’s helpful to have a school helper who is familiar to the students to assist with transitions and keep the flow moving smoothly. If that isn’t available, I’m happy to bring an assistant.
Yes! I'm happy to photograph siblings together. I just ask that the director bring the older sibling in when it's the youngest sibling’s turn to be photographed.
Galleries are ready approximately 10 business days after the final Picture Day. Families have a 30-day ordering window for printed products, and digital files are delivered immediately after purchase.
Very little. I provide all equipment and manage the flow of Picture Day from start to finish. Schools receive clear instructions ahead of time, and I simply request class rosters and family email addresses so I can communicate directly and handle ordering online.
A gym or an unused classroom works beautifully for Picture Day. At a minimum, I’ll need a clear 12' x 12' space to set up the backdrop and lighting.

Staff Photos
Complimentary staff photos are offered as a thank you to the amazing teachers and team members who make your school special. Each staff member will receive a professional headshot, and I provide the images to the school for use on your website, newsletters, or staff boards. It’s a simple way to add something extra and show appreciation for your team.
Katie came to our site to do class pictures for my preschool kids with disabilities. She was patient, understanding and used a variety of gadgets to obtain great photos for parents to choose from.
