As parents, we want nothing but the best for our little ones, and sometimes, that means investing in splurge-worthy baby products or services that can make our lives easier, safer, or more beautiful. While countless baby products are on the market, not all of them are worth the splurge. I asked my community of parents what they thought was worth the splurge, and here are a few gems they recommended:
Snoo Smart Sleeper ($1700): This high-tech bassinet revolutionizes baby sleep. It automatically responds to your baby’s needs with gentle rocking and white noise, helping them settle back to sleep. Its user-friendly app and modern design make it a top choice for improving sleep quality.
Nuna Pipa Carseat ($550): This carseat stands out for its exceptional safety and is one of the lightest carseats available. Consumer Reports rated it best for its top-notch crash-test rating. Notably, it’s the only car seat in the US that can be installed without a base, making it convenient for travel in taxis, Ubers, and rental cars. The integrated “dream drape” provides excellent sun and wind protection. Its regular install with the base is straightforward, and the load leg adds extra safety in a crash. With a generous weight, it accommodates babies longer than many other options.
Veer Wagon ($700): Ideal for active families, this rugged wagon is built to conquer any terrain, providing a smooth ride for both parents and children. Its all-terrain capabilities and ample storage make it perfect for outdoor adventures.
Owlet Smart Sock ($300): This monitor tracks heart rate and oxygen levels using advanced technology, providing insights into your baby’s health while they sleep. Its secure fit and user-friendly app makes it a reliable companion for monitoring your baby’s well-being.
BabyBjorn Bouncer Bliss ($260): This sleek bouncer provides both safety and comfort for babies, utilizing natural movements for gentle soothing. Its ergonomic design offers excellent support, and its portability allows for easy relocation around the house.
These are just some of the products that many of the parents I work with at my photography studio are purchasing in preparation for their baby. One thing these five products have in common is that, sadly, they have a shelf life; one day, they will become obsolete because your child will (hard truth here 🥲) ….grow up.
What baby investment will last forever? Newborn and baby photos. You will never throw these out, donate them, give them to a friend for their baby to use next, or become outdated with new technology. They are family heirlooms. Treasured and passed down for generations.
So, while it may be tempting to think that newborn photos are too expensive, consider that these five products alone cost $3,460 (as of this writing in 2024). Most of my clients spend only half of that on their newborn photography. The best part is that the newborn photos will long outlast the Snoo, Nuna, Veer, Owlet, and BabyBjorn!
