Lifestyle Baby Photography in Portland: Capturing Baby’s Early Days

The Magic of 3-Month Olds

Lifestyle baby photography beautifully captures the sweet, everyday moments that make up your baby’s story. At three months old, babies are just starting to show their personality. It’s such a fun age—still so small and fitting snugly on your chest for a nap, but also communicating with you in their own little ways: smiling, making eye contact, and cooing. While many people think of newborn photos as the only opportunity to document their new baby, a 3-month session is just as meaningful and beautiful.

Why In-Home Sessions Work So Well at This Age

One of the best things about lifestyle baby photography is that it takes place in the comfort of your home. There’s something especially comforting about photographing your baby in your own space. At three months, babies are still adjusting to routines, so having everything you need within reach can make a big difference.

During this session, we photographed in the nursery and in the master bedroom—two spots with beautiful natural light and sentimental value. These rooms weren’t just lovely; they were meaningful, calm, and filled with the family’s everyday rhythm. Mom and dad worked hard to design and build baby’s nursery, these photos help document and celebrate finishing such a gorgeous space!

I always bring lighting if needed to help enhance the natural light, and I gently guide you through the session while keeping things relaxed and baby-led. Feeding breaks, diaper changes, and outfit swaps are all part of the process, just like at the studio.

What to Wear for a 3-Month Photo Session

Choosing outfits doesn’t have to be stressful. For baby, soft rompers, textured knits, and simple onesies work perfectly. Baby C’s delicate floral dress and bow, along with her neutral onesie, were great examples of timeless wardrobe choices.

For parents, I recommend soft, neutral tones that coordinate with baby’s look. So for this session, creams, taupes, and cozy textures were perfect. Outfits should feel like an extension of your home and your style—not too formal, but thoughtfully put together.

Including the Family (Yes, Even the Dog!) 🐕

One of my favorite parts of this lifestyle baby photography session? The baby’s furry big sister joining in! Pets are such a special part of the family, and I always welcome them into sessions. The sweet interactions between baby and pup brought so much personality to the gallery and makes it all the more meaningful.

Behind the Scenes: A Glimpse Into the Session

This particular session took place in a cozy Portland home full of warm light and love. Baby C was content and full of smiles—happy in mom’s arms, playful with dad, and curious about her surroundings. We captured a little bit of everything: lots of snuggles, a diaper change, interacting with her parents, eye contact from those amazing blue eyes, sweet smiles, and even a few yawns!

How amazing is their home?! It is beautifully styled, with a soft neutral palette upstairs and thoughtful details throughout the nursery and bedroom. The green couch downstairs is such a great pop of color, too. It was so fun to create lifestyle baby photography images that reflect both the personality of this little one and the love that surrounds her.

We accomplished this session in just under an hour too. So if you are short on time, choosing to do the session in your home might be the way to go, to cut out the drive to and from the studio.
