My name is Katie, and I’m so glad you’ve found my little corner of the internet while searching for a Portland newborn photographer.
For over 16 years, I’ve specialized in photographing babies and families, capturing more than 500 newborns in that time. My studio is located just 47 miles south of downtown Portland in Salem, Oregon, where I create calm, natural, baby-led portraits that focus on connection and simplicity.
Most days, you’ll find me photographing sweet new arrivals, editing, and keeping my four kiddos happy. I’m a mama through adoption and remarriage. Together we’ve got a 9th grader, two 7th graders, and a 5th grader, so I know firsthand how quickly these early days and years fly by.

You should book your newborn session during your 2nd or 3rd trimester?
Most of the newborns I photograph are between 7 and 14 days old.
Booking your newborn session before baby arrives will ensure that:
1. I'm available around your due date.
2. You don't look up, suddenly your baby is 3 months old, and you realize you forgot to have newborn photos taken!
3. There is time to take your maternity photos.

If you are anything like I was, you really want a photo of your new baby with their older siblings. Your older child might fall in the 1-3 year-old range, and this has you worried. And rightly so – ha! I’ll be the first to tell you that photographing at this age can be challenging. However, not impossible – not by a long shot. I photograph motherhood and family in all its stages — from maternity and newborn portraits to baby milestones and yearly family photos. Many families start with a newborn session and return year after year, which is one of my favorite parts of what I do. Whether we’re in my Salem studio, your home, or outdoors, my goal is to create natural, timeless images that reflect your family’s love and connection.
Most sessions take place in my Salem studio, designed with families and babies in mind. It’s filled with beautiful natural light, soft textures, and everything you need for a relaxed experience. I also offer outdoor sessions in Salem, as well as in-home lifestyle sessions for those who want a more personal feel. Wherever we photograph, my goal is to create a calm, comfortable space where your family can simply be together.
My studio is located at 2319 State Street in Salem, Oregon, just 47 miles south of downtown Portland. It’s an easy drive from I-5 and close to downtown Salem, with plenty of convenient parking right out front. It’s a warm, light-filled space designed with new families in mind — comfortable seating, neutral tones, and a curated wardrobe so you can feel at ease the moment you walk in. I’m fully equipped with studio lighting, so we never have to worry about those dark Oregon days. Your photos will always look bright, soft, and naturally lit, no matter the weather outside.
I’ve been photographing families in the Portland–Salem area for over a decade, specializing in maternity, newborn, and family portraits. I began my photography career in 2009 while living in Portland and moved my business to Salem in 2013. Since then, I’ve had the joy of photographing hundreds of families and watching so many of them grow over the years.
Booking a session is simple! Just reach out through my contact form, and I’ll be in touch with session options and pricing. I’m happy to answer any questions you have along the way. When you’re ready to move forward, I’ll send a link to complete your portrait agreement and pay the session fee. From there, you’ll receive all the details — what to wear, how to prepare, and what to expect — so you feel completely ready for your session. For newborn sessions, I’ll pencil in your due date and we’ll schedule the exact session date once your baby has arrived.
The earlier the better! I recommend reaching out as soon as you’re considering a session; ideally, during your second trimester for maternity photos or before your baby arrives for newborn sessions. For family sessions, I tend to book up quickly in the fall, so it’s best to reach out 2-3 months in advance if you’d like a spot during that busy season. That said, I sometimes have last-minute openings, so don’t hesitate to reach out and ask!
Yes! I’ll send over a detailed style guide to help you choose what to wear for your session, along with links to Pinterest boards for inspiration. I also have a curated studio wardrobe for moms and babies available to use during your session, and if you’d like a second opinion, you’re always welcome to email me photos of what you’re considering. I’m happy to help you pull everything together.
All of my package options include digital files, with the choice to add a print credit for heirloom-quality artwork. The digital files you receive are fully retouched and delivered in a private online gallery where you can download, share, and safely back them up for your family archive. Most families choose a collection that includes both digital files and artwork, so they can enjoy their images in print and online.
You’ll receive your proofing gallery about two weeks after your session. From there, you’ll choose your favorite images during a one-day online ordering appointment. Once your selections are finalized, your fully retouched images will be delivered in a private online gallery where you can download, share, and order prints or albums.
Those first tender weeks are hard to put into words, so let's put them into photographs.
